Truly Purple

I'd just like to start by letting you all know that posts may not be as frequent as they usually are over the next week. Shaelea is home with the chicken pox, and as cool as it is that she can give a running commentary as I create a word document, I'm certainly not getting as much done each day as I normally do.

Long time readers of my blog will know I love my markers, and my favourite thing to do with them is to use them direct to rubber to ink up a stamp. Last night I needed a purple fix and to pull out my markers, and this is the card I created. It is based on Julee's Mojo Monday sketch for last week which I had been hankering to play and just didn't get a chance until then. The little flowers above the sentiment were punched out using the Boho Blossoms punch. Even though the punch was made to coordinate with the One of a Kind set, I love the shape of this flower and will use it on any 6-petal flower if I can! I had intended this card to just be Lavender Lace, Elegant Eggplant and Old Olive, but somehow my Almost Amethyst inkpad found it's way out onto my desk and so the small flowers were inked with that before going over the center with my Elegant Eggplant marker. I'm actually glad of that little "mistake" because I think the card would look a little bland without that added contrast. The sentiment was first stamped with VersaMark and embossed in white, then punched out with the small oval punch (which fits perfectly with this frame - gosh I love all the coordination, it makes everything so much easier!) and framed with some Styled Silver hodgepodge.

Speaking of Colour Challenges...

This card was my response to a colour challenge posted on an SU! demo yahoogroup I am on. The colours were Pumpkin Pie, Regal Rose, Basic Gray, Soft Sky and Whisper White. Oh my word! Initially I thought "I'm not even going to go there...", but then I decided that it really would be a challenge, and challenge is good! It's even better when you feel you have met it, and I think I did - I like what I came up with! To make things a little easier on myself I decided to team this colour challenge with Beate's latest sketch challenge.

KW Colour Inspiration #17 MK II

Well, I could help myself and have indeed kept playing with these colours. Then again, I did have to make up for the absence of ribbon, dimensionals and hardware on my previous card! For the background I have used second generation impressions of the large medallion stamped in Regal Rose and to soften this even more I have laid vellum cardstock over-top. The flower center on the main image is from the circular stamp in the True Friend set, punched out with the Boho Blossoms punch... I was so excited last night when I realised that it has six petals too and created such a pretty punchie, I love the shape of that flower in the punch!

ETA: to answer Tina/travellingmama's question about the vellum, I haven't done anything special to keep the vellum down in the corners (you can probably see in the photo how the vellum has tipped forward a bit and the light is shining through it from the back!). The SU! vellum cardstock is very good at not curling at the edges, so for this card I only stuck it down a bit behind the main image; it's also been secured along the right edge by the ribbons and in the middle by the brad.

KW Colour Inspiration #17

The inspiration pic for Kristina's latest colour challenge is soooo sooo pretty! I got an idea in my head pretty much straight away, but half way through I decided it wasn't quite right... looking back at the inspiration pic my card felt too dark and heavy. So I went back to very simple with lots of white and ended up with a Christmas card! I do think this card is super cute (it's a 10.5cm square card), but it feels like it is lacking something... though that may just be because I have five coordinating ribbons sitting on my desk and I didn't use one of them lol. The central motif, from the upcoming Spring Mini set True Friend, was stamped in VersaMark and embossed with white embossing powder. Then I coloured the Rose areas with markers, wetting each of the larger sections with the aquapainter before colouring to minimise any lines from where the colour overlapped. I then masked this inner section of the motif and sponged Sage Shadow around the outside - I loved the soft outline this provides! With my original card I had this area frames and this soft edge was lost, but I am hoping to go back to it and finish it off when I have distanced myself from the need to be light and airy with it. It's a rather grey and wet day outside, so I'm hoping to play with these pretty colours a bit more and perk myself up.
