KW Colour Inspiration #36

It feels very fitting that my first post of the year should be for a Kristina Colour Challenge. Her challenges have been one of my favourite creative aspects of 2008, often involving colour combinations I never would have thought to try but equally as often yielding wonderful results. I love playing with colour, and while I am often inspired by things in the real world, I still tend to stick to combinations that are instantly appealing rather than those that I am less favourable of. This weeks colour combination isn't so much of a stretch for me, there's my favourite shade of red and pinks and greens are always good in my book, but having such a short time frame to creat and submit within has also benefitted my stamping I think... I have a tendancy to over-think things but through Kristina's challenges I am much more inclined to "just do it" and that is when I tend to try out more new things.

For this card I combined the colours with Taylor's current sketch, which also wasn't such an unusual layout for me, but in the process of making this card I had the light bulb moment of double-punching the scallop edge punch to create a zig-zaggy edge that was more fitting for the Felt Fusion flowers I had chosen to use. The rest of the card is pretty straight forward: I've used my favourite pattern from the Prints paper (I've used the Old Olive pack here), the wide double-stitched grosgrain (I love the texture these ribbons add), sponging along the edges of the Olive cardstock (something I have been a bit lazy with which is silly when it is so simple) and the ever present dimensionals to make things really pop off the card. The stamp set I have used is Botanical Blooms, one of this year's Sale-A-Bration sets.

All supplies by Stampin' Up!
Cardstock: Pretty In Pink, Old Olive, Rose Red, Whisper White
Stamp set: Botanical Blooms
Ink: Old Olive, Pretty In Pink

Love your take on the Colour Challenge Carol. That double punching of the scallop edge punch is a fabulous idea, how clever are you? I must try that out! I don't have this stamp set yet - will have to get that one in soon now. Thanks for the inspiration, and for posting a lovely comment on my blog too!
