Cinema Saturday #35

This week's Cinema Saturday movie is Some Like It Hot. Lollipops were a common reference in the movie, so the basic idea for this card came pretty quickly. The stick for my lollipop was a real-life lollipop stick... I was going to use an empty pen bit but felt it would be too thick, so Shaelea had to have this lollipop for the sake of Mummy's art. Card layout is based on Taylor's latest sketch.

Most supplies by Stampin' Up!
Cardstock: Regal Rose, Chocolate Chip, Pink Pirouette
Stamp Set: Simply Said
Inks: VersaMark, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: sponge dauber, clear embossing powder, Pretty In Pink taffeta ribbon, Chocolate Chip taffeta ribbon, Sweet Always DSP, dimensionals, lollipop stick (non-SU!...)

Double duty

This card is for both the second Inklings cyberstamp challenge and Beate's weekend sketch challenge. Sorry the photo isn't very good, it's a rainy ol' day here and this was the best I could do.

The central image, from Simply Said, was inked using the Orchid Opulence and Sage Shadow markers then stamped on Very Vanilla. It is layered on Vintage Violet, both layers having two corners rounced with the corner rounder punch. I also roughed up the edges of the Violet layer with the distress tool from the cutter kit.The card base is also Vintage Violet, layered on it is a piece of Brocade Blue that has been stamped with linen using VersaMark. The strip of Orchid Oppulence along the bottom has been stamped with the cake from Blooming With Happiness, and the Sage Shadow strip up the left side has been pierced (and the piercings hightlighted by going over with the writing end of the Sage Shadow marker) then pieces of Bluebird, Cream and Orchid grosgrain ribbon have been tied around it. The central image has been popped up on dimensionals.

This morning we trekked off to do the groceries at Kotara. A bunch of new shops had opened during the week, along with more parking spaces, so there was a stack of people there to check it all out. We got there a little later than we intended, and after a bit of a look at the new shops (I went into Riot and didn't buy a thing. Well, Glenn was with me! But I did start a shopping list...) we decided to have some morning tea before embarking on the groceries, and gave the new Dreamy Donuts a go. In a word: YUM. I'm not going to think about the calories I have consumed today, I had to try those donuts out! I started with a Blueberry one, and finished with a chocolate filled one. The chocolate one was ok, the filling was like chocolate Yogo, it's just that knowing they use Lindt chocolate on others it was a bit of a let down. We also drove and walked past where Borders will be - I squealed both times and Tiarna is sharing my enthusiasm having been to the Borders at Tuggerah. All that said... it was a nightmare getting out. It took us over 20 minutes, normally we'd be well and truly home by then. Anyway, going to have to find some time to get back there so I can shop properly (and I don't have two girls to drag away from the scented erasers at Smiggle)

Still Black and White

After making my black and white butterfly card on Sunday I knew I wouldn't have time to complete another challenge for the Diva cybercrop, so I decided to finally work on the idea I had for CPS #5. As soon as I saw the sketch I knew I wanted to have a strip of scallops behind the main image, so I set to and created that with my trusty Stampin' Up! slit punch and a piece of Whisper White. The Simply Said set was still on the bench, so I stamped the flower bunch from that in VersaFine black on Whisper White (had to hit it with the heat gun, it did not want to dry!), and then started thinking about what colours I would use to colour the flowers in. Well, I looked at the mess that was on the bench, the clock telling me it wasn't ~*THAT*~ long until I should be working on dinner... and I decided to do another black and white card. I layered a piece of the All My Memories pp onto some Whisper White and attached three grey and black Prima flowers to the top left corner with a white brad by Finishing Touch Ideas (The corner is turned down, but the Prima's ended up covering that up). I mounted the flower bunch onto some Basic Black, then pierced this and the scallop strip before faux stitching both and then mounting them onto the card front. I debated adding a sentiment before deciding that it would detract from the clean look the card had going.

Back in the black & white

Friday night was the inaugural cybercrop over at Scrapbook Divas, and ultimately I didn't crop but I did stamp.

Originally I had stamped the sentiment in Whisper White, but I wasn't happy with how it dried so I ended up embossing the "Simply Said" sentiment on Basic Black (I tore the house appart looking for my embossing buddy and failed to fid it, so there are a few stray specks of white ep there). My thinking for this card really started with the paper, by All My Memories, that has been in my stash for a long time, along with about 10 other sheets of the same pattern in various colours! As I have done a bit of black and white this year I wanted to make sure it was vastly different to everything else I had done, and with the recent discussion about embossing tinsel and butterflies (by Amazing Creations, now defunct so you'll probably struggle to find the stamps) this idea formed of doing the butterflies on vellum. Have also been wanting to use these black and white Prima's for a while and decided this was the perfect opportunity. The larger black Primas are underneath the larger pp layer, so I raised it up on a heap of Magic Mount. The butterflies are stuck on with a bit of ds tape (because I was impatient by this point) behind some of the embossing.

Better late than Never

Friday 9th was a cybercrop at The Littlest Scrapbook Shop, but it took me until the weekend after to get any of the challenges done.
This card was in response to the card sketch for challenge 1. I wasn't big on pink for a long time, but I always find myself using it in cards (and now I have two daughters, one who is about as pink as you can be!). I've seen quite a few cards using this colour combination and have been dying to try it out myself. The card base is a piece of pale pink Prisma cardstock on which I stamped and masked two flowers from the "Simply Said" set (from last years Spring Mini) in Pretty in Pink and Regal Rose. I tore off the right edge of the card front, sponged some Chocolate Chip ink along this edge. I inked one of the sentiments from "Simply Said" with the Chocolate Chip marker, doing one line at a time and leaving lots of space between them on my scrap piece of Whisper White. I cut them out by hand and then went to mount them on the cardfront, over hanging the edge. Well, I hadn't been completely paying attention when I had started stamping the sentiment and had originally done it in Bais Black... when I realised my mistake I did as I always do and just flipped the piece of cardstock over. However, when I had cut out my pieces of Chocolate Chip sentiment some of the Basic Black was on the back! So I had to mount them onto another layer and chose a scrap of dark pink that was a good match for the Regal Rose. I stamped the circular "thank you" from the Seeing Spots set (more about that in a minute) in Chocolate Chip on Whisper White, then used the Stamp-a-majig to stamp the "Simply Said" flowers in the centre. I punched this out with the 1 1/4" circle punch and layered it on a 1 3/8" circle of scrap aqua cardstock, then mounted this on the cardfront. To finish it all off I added some pink Kindy Glitz to the centre of the flower.

The "Seeing Spots" set was a gift all demonstrators in Australia recieved from Stampin' Up! in January. The set will be in the 2007-2008 Idea Book and Catalogue, which will be released on April 2. I can't wait to see the new catty and all the fabulous new goodies we can get. Don't forget though you only have a short time left to order anything of the retiring list - some products are already sold out! See this post for more details -> So Long and Thanks for all the Fun
