Cinema Saturday #27

This weeks movie over at Cinema Saturday was Chocolat, another movie I am ashamed to say I hadn't seen until now! The additional recquirement this week was to use a sweet image in your creation - I don't have a lot of stamps that fit that bill and had a little cupcake and a birthday cake pulled out and hoping as I started to watch the movie. But I quickly realised I could turn to an old favourite - Like it a Latte - and it would be perfect since it caters for hot chocolate too. I tried to replicate the cups that Vianne has in her shop so I only inked up the outline and stamped another image inside. I used a strip of Chocolate Chip Patterns DSP, brayering it with Baja Breeze, to replicate the walls of the shop. And of course I had to use Riding Hood Red in honor of the mother and daughter pairs that stray from the normal path.

Beate's Sketch #52

This is the card I made for Beate's WSC #52. Admittedly it doesn't look a great deal like the sketch, but the sketch was the inspiration! All this nice rainy cold weather (nice because it reminds me of winters in Victoria) has had me thinking about nice warm drinks, so I pulled out another old favourite set to play with, Like It A Latte. Because of the packaging of the Jarrah Chocolate Chai Latte drink mix (can be seen in the middle, right down the bottom. Sorry, that really is the best image I have been able to find online!), I decided to go with the Berry Bliss paper and colours. For the main image I stamped the cup on Whisper White cardstock in Purely Pomegranate ink, stamped the froth in Close to Cocoa, masked the froth and stamped the steam in Pretty in Pink ink. I then masked the steam and sponged a little Close to Cocoa on the top of the froth, then masked the cup and sponged Close to Cocoa around it's base. The sentiment was stamped on the paper using Chocolate Chip ink AFTER I had stuck it on the chipboard. I debated whether to do it before hand, but thought I'd probably get the paper crooked and have to start all over again. I felt it needed something underneath the main image, so I attached some Pretty in Pink brads. I don't think the balance of this card is perfect, but I am quite pleased with the masked sponging, I really should do it more often.

Chocolatte Treat

I'm posting much later than I had intended to tonight, so this post is going to be short & sweet. This was my first convention swap, and the only one I remembered to get a photo of (and I had to snatch this one back to even get the photo!). I've used the Like It A Latte set, which is back from last years Spring Mini and in this years IB&C, to create a "pull treat". I lurved how this turned out and only wish I had time and sachets to make more of them in advance.

Hot Chocolate for the Blue Soul

Yet another 'Like it A Latte' card that uses some form of chocolate in the colour combination! this time I went for a brown and blue colour scheme. I started by sponging Ballet Blue ink on the piece of chipboard until it resembled Brocade Blue, making the edges a little darker, then stamped the sentiment in the middle with Chocolate Chip ink. The steam is Whisper White stamped on Bashful Blue, and underneath the marshmallows were stamped with Chocolate Chip and coloured with a white gell pen. The cup was stamped on Brocade Blue cardstock using Chocolate Chip ink, trimmed and mounted on the Bashful Blue piece. This was then layered on Chocolate Chip and Tempting Turquoise. Bashful Blue stitched ribbon (from the 'Seaside' Ribbon Originals collection) was threaded through the chipboard and secured with a couple of Tempting Turquoise brads, the ribbon ends being wrapped around a layer of Chocolate Chip that was mounted onto the Bashful Blue cardfront, and the cup and marshmallow piece mounted on top with dimensionals.

While I had the new 'Like It A Latte' (available in the upcoming Spring mini) out for the latest Elite Challenge, I thought I'd make a few more cards with it. I couldn't recall the last time I had used purple on a card, so I teamed Vintage Violet and Almost Amethyst with Close to Cocoa. The cup was stamped with Vintage Violet on Almost Amethyst cardstock and cut out. The steam was stamped with Almost Amethyst on Whisper White, and the sentiment stamped over top in Chocolate Chip (I was thinking the cliched cartoon version of smoke signals...). The cup was mounted at the bottom of this piece, and the lot layered on Vintage Violet. For the background the coffee beans are stamped with Chocolate Chip on Close To Cocoa (with some Choc chip sponged around the edges), layered on Vintage Violet and the chocolate stitched ribbon from the Seaside Ribbon Originals pack wrapped around two corners with a swirly clip from the Aged Copper hodgepodge slipped on the bottom one. Finally it was all mounted on the base card of Almost Amethyst. I really like this colour combination, so I expect I'll come back to it again soon.
