Dies With Butterflies

Very long time since I last posted... sorry about that chief! Here's a little something to ease back into it, a snippet of a card I just uploaded for the Elite Challenges Blog

The card is essentially what my swap card was supposed to be for the recent Stampin' Up! Convention, however I ran out of Peach Parfait cardstock (yes, I was very organised biggrin ). Once my order arrives with more Peachy goodness I'll remake the card the way it was supposed to be. Anyway, you can still enjoy it as it is

A Day Late And...

Happy St. Patricks Day!I really should have had this post scheduled, but thought I'd have time to do that yesterday morning. But my day was completely thrown out of whack with news that the 09/10 SU catty was starting to arrive on demonstrator doorsteps, and things like this fell by the way-side. Hey, I did get the sheets washed, so the day wasn't a compelte write-off! Anyway, this card was made for our March Inklings cyberstamp but I held off sharing until the day (well, it'd just still St Pats in Ireland wouldn't it???). Very simple, but I like it. The clover is actually a trimmed Flower Fusion flower.

And yes, my own pre-ordered catties arrived cool

Ending The Year On A Purple Note

Just in time to post one last card for 2008. Better late than never... which leads to a resolution - to be even more organised in 2009 (so if anything like chicken pox rears it's ugly head again it won't throw quite so big a spanner in the works).

ETA: I should add that the main stamp used on this card, the Baroque background stamp, was what I recieved from my Elite Secret Santa this year. I haven't had a chance to put much thought into who my Santa is (the whole cloak and dagger secrecy is one of my favourite bits of Secret Santa's, especially when you rarely get to see people's faces when they open their pressie) but if you are reading, thank you again!

All supplies by Stampin' Up!

Stamps: Baroque, Sincere Salutations
Inks: VersaMark, Elegant Eggplant

Get Well Memo

Swinging back to some bright colours for this one! I've pulled out Office Accoutrement and teamed it with Boho Backgrounds and Sincere Salutations. The large flower was inked with Rose Red, then I wiped the ink off the outline and used the Pumpkin Pie marker to ink it up before stamping on Whisper White cardstock. I also stamped the small flower twice using Rose Red ink and twice using Pumpkin Pie and cut all flowers out. The Memo image and sentiment were also stamped on Whisper White using Certainly Celery and Old Olive ink. I've also punched the edge using the spiral punch, then torn the piece and lightly distressed the edges. The Taken With Teal background has been stamped with the Boho flower background using Teal ink. I felt the flourishes on the "Original" stamp were a good match for the swirls on the background, so I stamped a row of them on Regal Rose cardstock using Rose Red ink. I created a faux bow overtop using turquoise and tangerine grosgrain ribbons. The large flower, with it's two smaller flowers attached with a Turquoise brad, has been popped up on dimensionals and I've finished the card off with a circle clip from the Antique Brass hodgepodge tin.

Wild Rose Wishes

This was another sketch that kinda went off the track! I started working on Taylor's sketch #20, but it quickly morphed into quite a deviation. Ah well. It's a sign that you haven't used a stamp enough if it doesn't stamp very well... neither the solid or detail stamps for the large rose came out well, so I filled them in a bit with ink and blender pen. The danger with this is that the cardstock will pill, but I did ok. Still, I find the balance of this card is off a little too (I should have brought the sentiment in a bit further, maybe done some paper piercing around the edge of the white layer) so it's been relegated to "non-stamping relative" status... usually they're not so picky (and I know, we are usually our own worst critics). Colours are Blush Blossom, Groovy Guava, River Rock, Old Olive and a bit of Ruby Red, paper is from the Secret Garden scrappin kit and ribbons are from the Sherbet and Theater Ribbon Originals packs.

Birthday Bug

I've been trying to get in front of my birthday cards this year, and I'm afraid I'm not off to a great start but there's always room for improvment. This card I made for my sister last week and I went to town with the purple again - Vintage Violet, Almost Amethyst, Silver and Whisper White. The Almost Amethyst layer has been stamped with the Paisley background in Almost Amethyst. The silver layer I ran through my Textile embossing folder in the Cuttlebug. I've got no idea on the origin of the ribbons, but I thought they worked nicely.

Happy Dragon

Finally I have something to share with you! This card was actually made a while ago, but I kept forgetting to take a photo, and then I kept forgetting to put the photo on the computer. This card was for my daughter who is dragon mad... for the last 4 or 5 years I have made her a dragon card for her birthday. I've used all of my dragon stamps over the years (6 at once when she was 6), so instead of repeating a stamp I thought I'd try a Greg Sukendro piece published in Atamping & Papercraft last year (I think...). This is half the size he had it (and slightly larger than a standard A6 card). I tweaked a few things (for one, used metallic card and paper instead of Bazzill because dragons should be shimmery and my Bling didn't arrive in time), the template wasn't perfect but I still think he came out pretty well, and my daughter loved it.

Pretty Papers II

Not sure, but this one might be more Christina Rei paper. Gorgeous shimmery chocolate. I know it also comes in a charcol too (must've completely used that sheet up!). Chocolate Chip and Whisper White cardstock. Frame from Finials and Frames and sentiment from Warmest Regards both stamped in Chocolate Chip. Frame has been coloured with bronze metallic pencil. Once again not sure on the origin of the ribbon.
This card is probably my favourite of the pretty paper ones because the colours are so different to what I would normally pick. It's another colour variation of the Christina rei paper I posted yesterday. Frame and Sincere Salutation sentiment stamped in Chocolate Chip on Cool Caribbean (great colour match to the paper), then the frame was coloured with a gold metallic pencil. A bronze satin ribbon is layered under the satin-edged gold oranza ribbon, and a couple of Antique Brass Hodge Podge brads finish it off.

Pretty Papers

Have you heard of the "Snip Snip Club"? It's for people who buy lots of pretty papers but can't bring themselves to cut into them. Now, I guess I was never a fully fledged member, but I must confess to having a stack of gorgeous paper that I just haven't used much. As most of you will know, when the June storm hit Newcastle, we had water go through our house. Sadly, some of my craft stuff was affected, including my horde or pretty papers. Initially I took it all over to the in-laws to sort through ($3000 odd of craft stuff alone on our insurance claim!), and I've decided it's high time I started moving it back from their place so they can have full use of their air hockey table again. I started by grabbing a wad of shimmery papers that were slightly water affected along the bottom, giving me a bit over half a sheet of each to work with. With these papers I always find it hard to cover them, so I found myself largely just adding a sentiment and an embellishment or two to them, but oh well... those papers are just so gosh darn gorgeous! Anyway, after that lengthy pre-amble, here's a couple of them...
Not sure who the manufacturer of this paper is. As soon as I pulled it out again I thought that Brilliance Pearlescent Beige ink was a perfect match for it, and it was! I've used Very Vanilla and Creamy Caramel cardstock, some Aged Copper Hodge Podge, a Making Memories brad for the flower centre, and some organza and skinny satin ribbon from my stash (aka I've got no idea where I bought them). The flowers are from the Looks Like Spring set, sentiment from Sincere Salutations.
I'm pretty sure these papers are made by Christina Rei. I had used some of the pink piece in the past and knew that Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid ink was a good match for the colour. For the green I found that Mellow Moss was a pretty good match. Cardbase is Mellow Moss, the Looks Like Spring flower has been stamped in the Orchid ink on Blush Blossom cardstock, the sentiment (from the SAB set Happy Harmony) has been stamped in Always Artichoke on Whisper White, punched out with the large oval punch, then the edge rolled across the Artichoke inkpad. For the flower centre I punched out a 3/4" circle from a scrap of the pink paper and coated it in 3D Lacquer (like Crystal Effects or Dimensional Magic... a very old bottle that I wasn't sure would still be ok to work with!).

It was a little odd to make some cards without a lot of stamping, but those papers make up for it I think ;-D

Danish Wishes

What's so Danish about this card, you ask? It was inspired by the top Claire Danes wore on Rove last week (as seen in the first pic in this slideshow). I decided the paisley background had the look I was after (Fine Lace was a completely different lace...), then had to think how I was going to stamp it... Basic Black wasn't going to be black enough and I didn't relish the thought of StazOn all over my precious paisley. So in the end I opted to stamp in VersaMark and dab the black pastel over it with a sponge dauber. The sentiment (from Sincere Salutations) was stamped in StazOn on caramel, with some gold brads to finish it off. Pretty simple, but quite elegant I think.

Montser Wishes

Friday night was the LSBS Second birthday cybercrop, and I finally found my way back there to join in. This is the card I made for one the card sketch challenges:

I had a heck of a time making this card... all my idea would run into snags, and then when some of those snags were sorted out I had gone far enough in another direction that there was no turning back. This was the destination... I just can't seem to get away from neutral coloured cards at the moment, though as it all started from the Prima flower (from the Montser pack) it was always going to have this little bit of colour. All the cardstock is shimmery, even the Christina Re patterned paper is shimmery, and that wasn't enough I had to add some Crystal gem stickers! The sentiment is from Stampin' Up! and was stamped with StazOn black.

Notice the new banner? It's a joint effort between myself and my sister :-D
