KW Colour Inspiration #18

Mark your calendars, August 7th was the day for doozy colour challenges! I have no shame in admitting I struggled with Kristina's latest challenge, mainly because I kept looking at the inspiration photo and thinking Pink Passion would have made more pop than Rose Red (Shaelea, my 5 year old and Little Miss Pink, even asked me where the pink was after seeing the photo). Anyway, I finally got there with something I am reasonably happy with.

Colour Challenge with a Twist

A few days ago Julia Stainton posted a challenge to create something using colours taken from patterned paper. I do do this from time to time, but as I was thinking over what paper I could pick colours from, a combination Julia posted jumped out at me. The colours I chose to use are Regal Rose, Ruby Red, Sage Shadow and Creamy Caramel. I started with an A6 piece of Confetti White card stock and stamped images from the Scribble This set all over it using StazOn Jet Black. I then coloured it in using an aquapainter to pick up ink from the inkpad lids. I made my background Sage Shadow first, then coloured the areas that I wanted Rose, moving on the Ruby and finishing with Caramel. I decided that I liked how the whole piece turned out, so I cut it in half to make two cards (bonus!). The Pretties Kit flowers were coloured using markers, and the scallop edge done with the Slit punch. I stamped the sentiment (from Occasional Greetings) using StazOn Jet Black, then decorated the scallops by adding my own scribbles with the fine end of a Basic Black marker and adding a hint of colour with the Creamy Caramel marker. I love how this came together, and love even more that it made me use colours I wouldn't normally put together (Ruby and Rose???).

just a brag or two

I have been meaning to post for some time now that I have some more cards published in Australian Paper Craft issue 76. This is actually the last issue of APC and soon we will see a new magazine that is an combination of APC and For Keeps, so keep your eyes out! APC 76 has been out for a while, though I did spot some in Borders last weekend.

But wait, there's more! I also have cards in Stamping & Papercraft this month! Volume 13, number 9. I particuarly love these cards because I challenged myself to use some different colours (for me) and they came out rather well I thought! So all thanks to Pumpkin Patch for the inspiration . There are 4 cards featured in the magazine, so I thought I'd share one of them with you:

getting back into the swing

My eyes were feeling much better yesterday, so I thought I would get myself back into the creative swing by tackling a couple of challenges I had seen around. This first card was a response to the sketch this challenge posted earlier in the week. The Regal Rose card base has been stamped with the Scribble This swirl in VersaMark, the layer of batik paper has been stamped with the small Scribble This flower with Bravo Burgundy ink (stamped off on scrap once before each impression on the batik paper), and the Natural Beauty stamp has been inked with Lovely Lilac and stamped on Whisper White. The Sweet Shop ribbon is attached with a couple of Apricot Appeal and Certainly Celery brads.

This next one was a sketch I had seen at Scrappers Anonymous. I've been doing quite a few landscape cards lately, so decided to flip the sketch. Not sure that this did the card any good, but hey... The Both Ways Blossom flowers and Sincere Salutations sentiment have both been stamped on Whisper White cardstock with StazOn black, the flowers coloured with an Aquapainter and ink from the pads (Pale Plum, Lovely Lilac and Pink Passion). They've been layered onto some marble paper, which is layered on top of Certainly Celery and the Pale Plum cardbase. The ribbon is some I picked up AGES ago from Go-Lo, the brads are Doodlebug Lilac.

Last night I was taking part in the Inklings cyberstamp, so I'll have cards from that to post later.

With all the colour combinations I have been playing with lately I still haven't been using the Bold Brights very much, so I thought I'd make a card using three of those colours that I very rarely use: Pink Passion, Yoyo Yellow and Only Orange. In the end Only Orange was reduced just to spots on the card (there's a dash of orange on the ribbon too) and I tossed in some Green Galore. And I even resorted to making this a 10.5cm square card to cut down on the amount of Bright! Card base is Pink Passion with the Scribble This swirl stamped in VersaMark. The Scribble This flower has been stamped on watercolour paper using StazOn black and watercoloured with an aquapainter and watercolour crayons. It was then layered on Yoyo Yellow and a slot punch in it to thread some Finishing Touch Ideas ribbon through. The Green Galore piece has been wheeled with the Scribble jumbo wheel with Green Galore ink. All Year Cheer I sentiment is stamped on Whisper White using StazOn black and edged with the Pink Passion marker, then attached to the Green Galore piece using two brads from Art Stamps Australia. The layout for the card was taken from Beate's sketch challenge.

Daisy Dreams

You know sometimes when you get an idea and it won't leave you alone until you've tried it out? This was one of those ideas: combining the large Scribble This flower with the EK Success Whale of a Punch Daisy.
Add some matching doodling/scibble to the punchie and they match wonderfully! The flowers have been done on various colours of salvaged batik paper, doodling done with the fine end of a black marker and stamping done in StazOn black. The cardbase is Summer Sun, layered with some salvaged marble paper. The Everyday Flexible Phrases sentiment is stamped on Pretty in Pink and punched with the Word Window punch, layered on a Basic Black small oval. Brads are from Art Stamps Australia, ricrac is unknown. I've used a Crystal sticker for the flower center.

And here's another card with the colours rearranged a little (though in this instance the background paper is batik paper). Cardbase is Regal Rose, sentiment is stamped on Pale Plum.

Happy Scribble

On Wednesday I picked up another wad of paper from the inlaws to see what I could salvage. This was a sheet of 12x12 patterned paper that I have no idea who makes it... I've used it quite a few times, even buying more sheets of it because I liked the colour so much. However, this card really started before that, when I coloured the flower. I usually avoid aqua-ish coloured flowers. I can't think of one flower that naturally occurs in that colour, but since stamping doesn't have to be realistic I thought I would give it a go. The petals had a touch of Almost Amethyst at their base and the center was coloured in Pretty In Pink. I decided that was just too... bright for my liking, so I went over it with the Almost Amethyst and it came out something like Pale Plum. The flower is mounted on Mellow Moss, with an All Year Cheer I sentiment stamped in StazOn on Whisper White and punched out with the 3/4" circle punch. I then went around the edge with a black marker to make it stand out more, and attached it using a couple of Queen & Co brads (good match for Cool Caribbean). This is all popped up on some industrial strength ds foam tape (and I mean industrial strength... it's actually VHB (Very High Bond) tape that trades people use... there is some of this stuff holding Sydney trains together...). Why the tape? For the simple fact these rolls are rather big and take up room. But considering I didn't pay for it, I no complain . The ribbon is Celebrate stuff from Spotlight, and the card base is Pale Plum.

Scribble-dee-ay

Could I have called this post anything else???
I think this has to be the first card I have made with the large Scribble This flower and not cut it out! It is stamped in StazOn and coloured with ink and aquapainter on watercolour paper. It kinda felt a waste to use the whole piece of watercolour paper, but I wanted it nice and clean, uncluttered, around the flower, so it had to be done. The decoration in the corners is done with the side of the brush tip of the Rose Red marker. Warm Words sentiment stamped in StazOn on watercolour paper with Marigold Morning ink painted around it, layered on Pale Plum then wine and gold organza ribbon attached. The cardbase is Elegant Eggplant with layers of Rose Red and Marigold Morning. The rose layer has some freeform piercing on it

Scribble-dee-doo-dah

No, I've got no idea where that post title came from either...

The other day I stamped a few Scribble This flowers on watercolour paper to colour at my leisure. I coloured two with the idea of cutting one out and mounting it over the other, but when it came down to it I liked how I had coloured each so much I couldn't bear to cover one up... so then I could make two cards instead of one. This one ended up being a CASE of a card by JanTink. The flower was coloured using the Elegant Eggplant and Rose Red inkpads (along with a touch of Bravo Burgundy) and an aquapainter, mounted over a Certainly Celery 1 3/8" square with a Pale Plum button for the centre. The celery square was stamped with the swirly scroll stamp from Scribble This in Certainly Celery ink, and then I stamped this on the Whisper White layer twice. At the bottom of the WW layer I stamped the Warm Words sentiment in Elegant Eggplant ink and the three little flowers, the "dot" at the bottom of the question mark from the Scribble alpha, has been stamped in StazOn and coloured like the main flower. A layer of Rose Red on Elegant Eggplant card base, Sweet Shop Ribbon Originals ribbon, and some cute little photo corners and voila! Bet you'll never guess how I did the photo corners...

It's a Scribble Fest!

You have been warned! These were actually the first cards I made with the Scribble This set, and I went for a seriously unusual colour combination (for me at least) of Not Quite Navy, Sage Shadow, Bordering Blue and Sahara Sand.For this card I have stamped the Scribble wheel on the base card with Not Quite Navy ink, the Sage Shadow layer has the swirly scroll stamped in VersaMark, the flowers are stamped in Very Vanilla, and the sentiment (borrowed from the hostess set Blooming with Happiness) in stamped with Not Quite Navy. The stitched ribbon is from the Prep School Ribbon Originals collection,

Spring has Sprung!

For this post I though I would show you a card using my favourite stamps from the mini: Scribble This and the Scribble Jumbo wheel. I have to tell you, my jaw seriously dropped when I saw this gorgeous wheel!The flower has been stamped with StazOn on watercolour paper and coloured with an Aquapainter and watercolour crayons. The wheel was inked in Vintage Violet and stamped on Vintage Violet, trimmed, layered on a piece of Taken With Teal and mounted on the Brocade Blue cardbase. The cardbase has been stamped with one of the swirly stamps from Scribble This twice using Brocade Blue ink. The flower is mounted on top with a Brocade Blue button for the centre. The colours were inspired by some clothes I have... in fact I am wearing the Vintage Violet jacket, Rose Red shirt and Brocade Blue jeans as I type!
