Monday night was the Inklings Cyberstamp for March, hosted by Ryn. The first challenge she presented to us was to create something inspired by a reusable shopping bag from Target. She didn't mention what she felt were the closest colours, so I erred on the side of purple and went with Almost Amethyst, Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery. The bag had butterfly designs on it but I felt like something different so I went back to an old favourite and pulled out A Beautiful Thing and didn't worry about getting the outline image remotely close to the solid colour as the original bag had the outlines well and truly offset... in fact it was almost a challenge in itself to not automatically try and line the limages up closely!

The Card That Started It All
This card was made weeks ago, for Taylor's sketch challenge #64, but I kept it under wraps because I very quickly decided that I had to use these elements again for convention swaps and didn't want to spoil the surprise. You may notice a lot of white flecks on the card: that's not white embossing powder or anything like that, it's just dust and fluff that collected on the card over the weeks it sat here waiting to be photographed and a quick brush didn't get them off (I was in a rush as I needed to attend to dinner!). The main image is the Bloomin' With Beauty flower stamped on Whisper White and cut out just as I did for the bookmark swaps (though the others are coloured much nicer). The black strip across the middle has Bella's Border embossed in black just as I did for the "Bella & Edward/Jacob" cards, although here I did it twice (turning the wheel around the second time and trying to get a mirror image effect but I didn't quite line it up perfectly). The sentiment comes from yet another set, A Beautiful Thing, which I inked with my Basic Black, Riding Hood Red and Garden Green markers. I was quite happy with how this turned out!All supplies by Stampin' Up!

The Bold & The Beautiful

Time for something bright... Bold Brights in fact! This one is quite a simple card, but I really like it. I've CASEd an old card by Lauren Meader for this one (I'd actually forgotten she'd had purple along the bottom too... it just ended up working out best with everything else - AND got more purple on the card!), using A Beautiful Thing, the matching It's Beautiful wheel, and the matching Eastern Elegance rub-ons. All of these are in the current Spring Mini catalogue which ends on Nov 30th, so if you want to order them you'd better be quick! The Eastern Elegance rub-ons are of course part of this months promotion, making them even better value for a top quality product.
To get the solid stamp image lighter that the detail stamp I simply stamped off onto scrap paper first. I didn't worry about the detail stamp lining up perfectly with the solid background on this card as I was in the mood for something a little less formal and more fun... it seemed to fit the colours too.
If you'd like to see another card using the same sets and similar colours, check out the card I uploaded to the Elite Challenges blog this morning. But don't forget your sunglasses!

KW Colour Inspiration #22
This week Kristina has posted another very pretty colour challenge. I did find it a little hard to work in the Burgundy, beside the Roses it didn't seem very red at all, so I did use a second generation of it so it wasn't as dark and more of it's red could show through. Using the Three for You punch on the A Beautiful Thing row of flowers was something I had contemplated doing last week for Regionals swaps but ran out of time to try, so after thinking about a few other sets this morning this idea popped into my head. It looks pretty simple but is a little more time consuming because you have to stamp the little flowers so many times to get enough. All supplies by Stampin' Up!

Spring Mini is Here!
So I underestimated things when I said I'd be back to blogging on Monday. I had a fantastic time on the Inklings team weekend, but stayed up waaaay too late creating and chatting. I look forward to sharing what I made in the days to come, but first I want to share with you things I made before I left.
It's August, which means you can now view and order from the SU! Spring Mini (if you'd like your own copy of the mini just email me and I can pop one in the mail for you). While there is a lot to love in this catalogue I thought I'd kick things off with three simple cards. Yes you read right, three cards. And they're simple!
This first card is just a piece of Whisper White, one jumbo wheel, one stamp, 2 inkpads and 1 ribbon (and a tiny bit of black twine). Pretty, simple and easy. Then I stepped it up a little for the next card:
Two pieces of cardstock and a couple of scraps, one wheel, two stamps, two inkpads, one ribbon, one brad, three punches and some dimensionals. Still pretty, still relatively simple and still relatively easy. Then I stepped it up a wee bit more:
Three pieces of cardstock plus scraps, one wheel, two stamps, two inkpads, one ribbon, one brad, five punches and some dimensionals. Still pretty, simple and easy but with a lot more interest.
