SU! Convention Swaps

As I mentioned in my last post, I had Stampin' Up! convention coming up. The event was last weekend, and once again it was a fabulous experience (though I could have lived without the two fire alarms that were false alarms at the hotel!). I find swapping is a wonderful aspect of convention, though it can be a frenzy you exchange creative ideas and meet so many other talent people face to face. These are the two cards I swapped:

Many of you have probably noticed that I used the same set. I do have more than one set of stamps! I just love this set so much and the styles are so different that some people even swapped for both cards. Both are pretty simple to make, if you'd like to see how and have a go at making one yourself book a workshop and I can come and show you how it's done.

All supplies by Stampin' Up!
first card
Cardstock: Soft Suede, Confetti White
Stamp Sets: Vintage Vogue, Very Vintage jumbo wheel
Ink: VersaMark, Tempting Turquoise, Cameo Coral, Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: Kiwi Kiss striped grosgrain ribbon, horizontal slot punch, Top Note die, Vintage brads

second card
Cardstock: Sage Shadow, Whisper White, Handsome Hunter, Lavender Lace
Stamp Set: Vintage Vogue
Inks: Almost Amethyst, Lavender Lace, Orchid Opulence, Handsome Hunter
Accessories: scallop border punch, Rich Regals brads

Hello Butterfly

As I mentioned yesterday, I recently attended Stampin' Up! regionals in Sydney. You may not know that part of the deal in attending is receiving a stamp set to use in make & takes on the day, and to take home with us (considering everything else that is involved in regionals, receiving a stamp set just for going along really does seem like a a great perk!). The stamp set we received this year is the one you can see used above, Hello Again (we also received the matching wheel, Retro Remix, along with a wheel handle and cartridge - the deal just gets better and better!). I've employed the same technique as yesterday in parts of this card, using markers over the top of lighter coloured ink, to get the different colours on the butterfly. To see the full card and all it's product details, head over to the Elite Challenge Blog.

Spring Mini is Here!

Morning everyone! I'm back from the Inklings team weekend and I have stuff to show you that I made while I was away, but since I didn't get a chance to schedule it before I went away I'd like to share with you the news that the Stampin' Up! Spring Mini catalogue is now live!

If you haven't already received one in the mail you can check it out online at the Stampin' Up! website, or you can contact me and I can send one out to you.

Ack!

sorry I have been so quiet, I have been flat out getting ready for convention... no time for CSCC this week (though I did watch the movie a few times and had ideas on what I would do with my card), no time KW's Colour Inspiration challenge... I am leaving for SU! Convention in Canberra in less than an hour (OMG!). I'm hoping I will get time to have at least one scheduled post but I should pack rather than type!

Stampin' Up! Bushfire Appeal

Stampin' Up! have announced this morning that the final amount they will be donating to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal is $77 889.63 - isn't that just fantastic! Thank you to everyone who purchased the Appeal sets and helped Stampin' Up! reach such a fabulous figure.

In other news, I've uploaded another card over at the Elite Challenges blog. I'd love to see what other people come up with for this colour challenge! It's not the easiest colour challenge I have ever done but I am really pleased with what I came up with.

New Catalogue Now Available

Stampin' Up!'s 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalogue is now available online for your viewing pleasure. If you'd prefer a hardcopy to plaster in post-it notes, email me or call 0422 936 139.

You may notice that the list of supplies used on samples traditionally at the back of the catalogue is absent. Stampin' Up! have opted to use those pages to showcase more product, so the supplies list is now available online as a pdf. You can view the list with pictures of the samples beside the supplies list, or as text only.

SU Retiring List - The End is Nigh!

Stampin' Up! have just released the list of retiring stamps and products - it's a huge list this year! While this means there will be lots of room for new goodies in the next catalogue, it also means that you had better be quick if there's anything you have your heart set on that is on the list... because once it's gone, it's gone!

You can view the retiring list in two ways:
Alphabetical order
Page number order

Look closely at the list as some items are marked down 25%, while there are even a few marked down by 50%!

It looks like there will be a price increase for ink pads and refills in the new catalogue too, so now is the time to snap them up. Email or phone 0422 936 139 to place your order.

SU! news

Sorry I haven't posted all week! I haven't made a card I can share with you and I didn't get around to photographing my ATC for this months swap so this post will be sans artwork. Instead I wanted to update you with SU!'s contribution to the Bushfire Appeal. From the sales of the Bushfire Appeal stamp sets to date, Stampin' Up! will be able to donate $34,653.80 to the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfires 2009 Appeal. That is fantastic! We still have a whole month to go on the promotion so I expect that figure to be quite a bit larger by the end.

In other news, tomorrow is the last day of February, so is the last day of Sale-A-Bration. It's also the last day you can order In Color products and be guarenteed delivery. Some ink refills are already on backorder, but Stampin' Up! will honor any orders made for these in February. Once March arrives and the retirement list is announce (on which we expect all In Color products to appear), these products are sold "while stocks last". So if there are any In Color products that you are after, get your order in ASAP.

World Card Making Day

Stampin' Up! are celebrating World Card Making Day by offering 20% off all Simply Sent Kits. The kits are a great package, with everything you need to make 10 cards. They can make a wonderful gift, provide an easy start to stamping and cardmaking, or simply give you 10 quick and easy cards. With 20% off they're even better value! While the kits come with a booklet giving instructions for 2 designs you can of course change things around if you like.

For my own World Card Making week celebrations I'm going to be focusing on a different aspect of card making each day of the week. These will be my "7 Loves of Card Making". Along with these I will be posting a challenge to YOU my readers, and a few little prizes along the way. Later today (ie after I have taken photographs) I will be back with my first Love, design, showing how a few tweaks of card layout and supplies can produce a number of different looks.

Happy Birthday SU!

October marks the 20th birthday for Stampin' Up!, and in true hobbit style they're giving you the presents! lol (like I was going to miss an opportunity to make a hobbit comment... be warned it isn't the last LOTR reference in this post either)

For the month of October Stampin' Up! are offering 20% off sellected stamp sets when you spend over $20. To see the full range of discounted sets available see the Stampin' Up! website, but to kick things off I thought I'd share a card with you featuring one of the special sets, Pretty Princess. I really got into stamping when I had my first daughter Tiarna, as I wanted to give her handmade birthday cards for something that little bit more special than a store-bought card. Since she gave my stamping that initial kick-start, I have used Tiarna's favourite colours for the cake image from the set (the Pretty Princess isn't like her at all... if she was to be a princess she'd be like Eowyn) for this card.
Yes, Tiarna's favourite colours are purple and aqua (though I have gone to the "minty" end of the aqua spectrum)... she certainly takes after her mum!

All supplies by Stampin' Up!
Cardstock: Confetti White, Almost Amethyst, Lavender Lace
Stamp Set: Pretty Princess
Inks: StazOn Jet Black, Almost Amethyst; Sage Shadow, Soft Sky and Lavender Lace inks also used for water colouring
Accessories: aquapainter, 3/16" corner rounder, 1 3/8" circle punch, White Aluminium Circle Tags, scallop circle punch, Soft Sky double-stitched ribbon, dimensionals, Crystal Effects

Rustic Wishes

On Saturday I attended the second Stampin' Up! Regional Seminar in Sydney. The weather was absolutely terrible but the day was equally fantastic, catching up with so many people again (even if I did miss a few), watching the fantastic presentations, creating the fabulous make&takes with brand new product. Another one of my favourite things about SU! events is the swapping - I love receiving creations made by others face to face and being able to ask them about the card (though quite often it's not till later I get to have a good look at things). This is the card I made for swaps. I wanted to make more and different ideas that I got, but I just knew I didn't have time to do the ideas justice so they are percolating in the back of my head biding their time. I have to say that this card was kinda influenced by Heather of Pine is Here, I love her use of Kraft and white ink/paint. To be completely truthful this isn't one of my swap cards. The weather was so bad before I left I didn't get a good photo of it, so when I got home (well, Monday really) I decided I liked the simple design so much I'd make more for some of my own Christmas cards. Most of the cards were slightly altered but this one I kept true to the swaps except leaving out the piercing.

All supplies by Stampin' Up
Cardstock: Always Artichoke, Kraft, Mellow Moss, Whisper White
Stamp set: Peaceful Wishes
Ink: Whisper White, Always Artichoke
Accessories: Moss gingham ribbon, Aged Copper Hodgepodge

Spring Mini is Here!

So I underestimated things when I said I'd be back to blogging on Monday. I had a fantastic time on the Inklings team weekend, but stayed up waaaay too late creating and chatting. I look forward to sharing what I made in the days to come, but first I want to share with you things I made before I left.

It's August, which means you can now view and order from the SU! Spring Mini (if you'd like your own copy of the mini just email me and I can pop one in the mail for you). While there is a lot to love in this catalogue I thought I'd kick things off with three simple cards. Yes you read right, three cards. And they're simple!

This first card is just a piece of Whisper White, one jumbo wheel, one stamp, 2 inkpads and 1 ribbon (and a tiny bit of black twine). Pretty, simple and easy. Then I stepped it up a little for the next card:
Two pieces of cardstock and a couple of scraps, one wheel, two stamps, two inkpads, one ribbon, one brad, three punches and some dimensionals. Still pretty, still relatively simple and still relatively easy. Then I stepped it up a wee bit more:
Three pieces of cardstock plus scraps, one wheel, two stamps, two inkpads, one ribbon, one brad, five punches and some dimensionals. Still pretty, simple and easy but with a lot more interest.

All supplies by Stampin' Up!
Cardstock: Kraft, Basic Black, Whisper White, Almost Amethyst, Lavender Lace
Stamp Sets: A Beautiful Thing, It's Beautiful
Inks: Almost Amethyst, StazOn Jet Black
Accessories: Kraft taffeta ribbon, black hemp twine, 5-Petal flower punch, Spring Bouquet punch, 1/16" circle punch, Vintage brads, large oval punch, Designer Label punch, Almost Amethyst marker, dimenaionals.
