I'll Owl-ways Have Punches

Yes I know, more punch art! But at least there is a bit of stamping this time!

It's been a while since I have done someone else's challenge (for those of you who don't know, I create the monthly challenges over on the Elite Challenges blog), so when I finally got caught up on my Google Reader and saw a couple of challenges freshly posted I thought I'd take some time out and put something together. This card is based on Taylor's sketch #105 and Keesh's Inspiration Challenge #19. After seeing a few comments that Keesh's challenge would result in a lot of flower cards I decided to do things differently, so I just took the colours. I didn't stick to the colours completely, just wanted a lot of green and purple. The owls were inspired by some fabric I saw the other day, where I had a lightbulb moment and realised the Round tab punch could be used to shape the top of other punches for owls. The Curly Label punch can be used too, however it has wider curves so I think he works better on larger shapes (ie the 1 3/4" circle and larger). For something I pretty much just winged, the branches worked out perfectly with a pretty seamless join... that I then went and covered up! It would have been fine if i had stuffed it and used it for an "embellishment opportunity", but I guess it's always good practise for the next time I want to lengthen that branch...

Whoo Loves Baja Breeze?

Baja Breeze is easily my favourite In Color this year, so it's a wonder it took me this long to include it in one of the Colour Challenges over at the Elite Challenges blog. Today being a new month there are a bunch of new challenges up and I have just uploaded my card for June's Colour Challenge. Above you can see a little snippet of it. To make the sentiment I used my Basic Gray marker to ink up alternate lines (ie "guess" and "loves", then "whoo" and "you!") before stamping so I had plenty of room between lines to cut them out.

Convention Swaps Part III

Leading up to convention, my daughter Shaelea recieved a birthday invitation for a party on the Sunday while I was away... so I couldn't leave the card to do the night before! I asked Shaelea what card she'd like to give and this is what she came up with... simple yet cute, so I decided to make some more for Convention swaps. My girls call this little guy Chubby Owl, I think he's their favourite stamp in the entire catalogue (beat that Sock Monkey!)

On Board Owl

Last night I decided to just play, and so I pulled out something I'd been wanting to do for ages: cover one of the On Board So Tweet chipboard owls with DSP. I'm pleased to say that he pretty much came out as expected (though I was thrilled the Haiku pattern was such a perfect size for the eyes), but then I had to think what to do with him! I decided to put him on a card, and though the latest Weekend Sketch Challenge would suit... if you want to be particular the oval is the circle from the sketch and the owl is the large rectangle behind that. I was going to add a large rectangle of DSP behind the owl but everything I tried distracted from him, so he's just out on a (ribbon) limb with no treetrunk in sight!
